The ultimate ‘Bucket List’ tour takes in some of the most amazing scenery Queensland has to offer.

Highlights of this tour include Carnarvon Gorge with its towering Sandstone cliffs; Outback Queensland towns including Longreach and Mt Isa, and the scenic Undara Lava Caves.

We also visit Kurumba in the Gulf Country (which was a maintenance base for the Qantas Empire Airways flying boats) Horn and Thursday Islands, both part of the Torres Strait Archipelago; Cooktown, and Mareeba Far North Queensland.  We then follow the Great Barrier Reef all the way south, back to the Sunshine Coast.

Itinerary

Day 01

Depart from the Sunshine Coast Airport and head out west to Roma, to visit The Big Rig Museum and learn more about Australia’s natural resource industry, as well as a tour of the town. Leaving Roma we depart on a short flight and land on a private airstrip on a 72,000-acre farm in the Carnarvon Ranges where we will spend our next two nights relaxing and exploring this amazing area.

Day 02

After Breakfast, there is a private guided day tour of some of the most amazing scenery in our state. Explore the hidden wonders and secluded gorges of the Carnarvon Ranges. See Aboriginal rock art, dinosaur plants, and enchanting wildlife with exclusive access to a 72,000-acre working cattle station.
Return to your accommodation for dinner and time to relax before continuing the adventure tomorrow.

Day 03

Departing on the next leg of the journey, you'll take in the views of Carnarvon Gorge from above, as you fly to your next destination, Longreach. You will have the opportunity to spend the afternoon at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame learning the amazing history of what life was like for those in the Outback in the early days.
Your evening will be enlightened by a ‘Bush by Night’ experience - including a campfire dinner, animal spotting and watching the Sunset over the Queensland Outback, before returning to your accommodation.

Day 04

Today you'll fly even further into the Outback as you travel to Mt Isa. This mining region grew around the vast deposits of Lead, Silver, Copper and Zinc. An amazing town which has a rich history you will learn about on our guided tour of ‘The Isa’ (as the locals call it) and the Uranium mine.
Accommodation for the night is at the 4.5-star RedEarth Boutique Hotel which has been carefully restored to provide “premium service with historical stylings”.

Day 05

Departing Mt Isa, travel to Adels Grove which will be your base to explore the amazing Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park for the next 2 nights.
The guided tour this afternoon will include areas such as Lawn Hill Gorge and Riversleigh Fossil Field – of which David Attenborough said, “Riversleigh is one of the four most important fossil deposits in the World”. The evening’s plans are to watch the sunset on Harry’s Hill before returning for dinner.

Day 06

After breakfast, you will again set off for a guided tour of the incredible Lawn Hill National Park, gleaning information on the flora and fauna unique to this area. Following this, take a cruise along Lawn Hill Creek. It will provide many opportunities for photos and to simply relax and recharge in the tranquil surroundings.

Day 07

Today you will fly north to the coastal town of Kurumba in the Gulf Country. A region with a rich fishing history is home to the Barramundi Discovery Centre where you will be treated to a guided, behind-the-scenes tour. It is the only hatchery in the world to breed the Southern Gulf Strain of the Barramundi.
Lunch, as you may have guessed, is Fish & Chips overlooking the beach (other meal options will be available).
Spend your afternoon relaxing, before you depart on a Sand Island boat cruise to dine on freshly cooked Gulf Prawns and refreshments as you watch the sunset over the water.

Day 08

Our flight this morning takes us over some amazing scenery of the Gulf of Carpentaria and on to Weipa, a coastal mining town. What would be a 13-hour drive takes us less than 2 hours by air. There are enormous deposits of Bauxite along the coast, and you will have the opportunity to learn more about this unique region on a guided tour.
Departing Weipa, we’ll fly from mainland Australia out to Horn Island. This area is part of the Torres Strait Island Group and these islands have an incredible history. You will gain insight into the region by visiting the museum with local tour guides.
Accommodation here is ‘island-style with all the essentials provided.

Day 09

After a leisurely breakfast, we will travel by ferry to Thursday Island, just a 5-minute boat ride away. The island is known by the locals simply as TI and is home to a vibrant mix of colours and sounds displaying the history of island life. You will again be guided by a local who has insights into this region. A visit to heritage-listed Green Fort Hill is a highlight of the town tour.
There may be time for shopping at the local markets for souvenirs before we return to Horn Island and your accommodation for the night.

Day 10

This morning’s flight takes us south, along the coast and past Iron Range National Park, to Cooktown. This beautiful unspoilt coastal town is where Lt James Cook repaired his ship in 1770. You will have the opportunity to visit the world-class James Cook Museum, Historical Railway Park, Cooktown Cemetery and Grassy Hill where James Cook stood while looking for a safe passage through the reef.
Our short afternoon flight takes us past Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas for more photo opportunities before arriving at Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands. Your accommodation is located in a picturesque location, allowing you to relax and unwind.

Day 11

Today will also be more relaxed, with a guided tour of some of this region; comprising of visits to natural wonders, coffee plantations and the museum.
Returning to your accommodation on the Tablelands for Dinner and a good night’s rest before our adventure continues tomorrow.

Day 12

Your next flight takes us south to Charters Towers which was founded on gold back in 1872 and a rush of ‘fortune seekers’ followed for many years and reached its peak of gold production in 1899. During the period 1872-1899, the place changed from a rough settlement with bark and calico buildings to a thriving City of some 25,000 inhabitants. The City, by that time, had properly formed streets, some wonderful houses and many grand public buildings lining the two main streets.
The decline of mining following World War 1 also saw a decline in the population. The town then became the supply centre or hub of the then Dalrymple Shire as well as the educational centre for students from all over North Queensland. You will have the opportunity to go on a self-guided tour of the town and the areas you have an interest in.
Your accommodation is in a 1950 asylum, formerly anyway, the original buildings have been carefully restored while adding all the comforts we have come to expect.

Day 13

Your flight today takes will take you to the Queensland Coast to Airlie Beach and the Great Barrier Reef. Photo opportunities are endless as we will head home over some of the most iconic islands in the Whitsundays. Be sure to have your camera ready as you fly over the world-famous Whitehaven Beach, Linderman, Brampton and Keswick Islands many of which are still closed to visitors due to the cyclone Debbie in 2017.
Soon after passing over Mackay, we will arrive at our next destination ‘The Old Station’ which is a 26,000-acre working Brahman cattle station, owned by the Creed Family. You can take a tour of this amazing property and our accommodation is onsite in air-conditioned rooms with shared bathrooms.

Day 14

Departing The Old Station, we fly to Bundaberg, where you will be able to take a tour of the Bundaberg Rum Distillery (established in 1888) to learn the amazing story of the survival of this business.
Homeward bound now, this flight will take us over the world-famous K’gari (Fraser Island) and the Coloured Sands before passing over the holiday destination of Noosa on our way to the Sunshine Coast Airport. We will have you arriving early afternoon for any flights you may have to connect with to get you home.
